Alexander “Little Page” Green (1806-1874) joined the Methodist Episcopal Churches Nashville Conference in 1829. He was elected vice-president of the Tennessee Conference’s Temperance Society in 1835. Green was instrumental in the Southern Methodist Publishing House’s move to Nashville in 1854, and also helped establish Shelby Medical College (1857) and Vanderbilt University (1875). Whites Creek’s first school was renamed Alex Green Academy in 1887. Pictured here are students in the mid-1920s including Eloine Duke. as well as the Alex Green Elementary school in the 1960s.
